This is as close to the perfect aircraft that you will find. Everything looks, feels and sounds just right. The cockpit feels authentic, with a nice bit of weathering and wear. The reflections on the glass are subtle and just enough to make you feel that you’re inside something. Every knob and dial inside the cockpit has depth and looks real. Everything moves and has function - even the toe brakes depress. The handling of the plane is just sublime, with a lag between throttle input and engine response. There is a good sense of momentum and weight and you have to pay attention to energy management, but it feels true to the laws of physics. And then there is the sound which just rounds everything off and blends perfectly with the motion of the aircraft and the pilot’s inputs. The jet whine changes pitch according to the throttle input and wind noise increases as you build speed with a rumble of the engine audible at full throttle. It just feels so damn real and gives perfect feedback to where you are in the flight envelope. You can almost fly this aircraft on sound alone without looking at the instruments, it is that good! The flyby sound is also fantastic, with that typical airshow feel to it. Even the manual, at about 30 pages, is clear and focused and I had no trouble getting the plane started according to the proper procedures and into the air in a very short time. It is full of banter and humour and you can sense that the developers had lots of fun doing this aircraft. The sense of immersion is total and the suspension of disbelief is total. I can just forever cruise around in this plane and feel it cutting through the air, with the wind whistling past the canopy and the jet engine rumbling in the background. When you look out over the wing, every rivet and decal is there in minute detail. This is one of those rare aircraft which will make you feel like you’re really there. Get it! T Brady |
